The CAD Society - Engineering Heros
A hero, in Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod, the offspring of a mortal and a deity, their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion.
Our heros are men and women that have risen to the top of the industry making contributions that move us all forward.
Dr. Alyn Rockwood
Alyn is one of the leading research scientists worldwide and is primarily known for his innovative research in computer graphics and geometric modeling. He received a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. While a research scientist at Cambridge University in the 1980's, he invented a new area of mathematics involving the definition and blending of surfaces. His entire professional life has been involved in studying the mathematics of the representation of objects.
Alyn is currently Vice President of SIGGRAPH, one of the most prestigious worldwide organizations focused on graphics and 3D. He served as the SIGGRAPH conference chair in 2003 and as the SIGGRAPH Research Papers Chair in 1999. Alyn has an illustrious career that spans many leading 3D companies including Silicon Graphics, Evans & Sutherland, and Mitsubishi Research. He was formerly a tenured professor at Arizona State University and most recently was Professor, Assistant Dept. Head, and Director of Graduate Studies at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado
Alyn conceptualized and developed the FreeDesign geometry subsystem. He believes the technology has great potential in design, styling and animation, and education. Alyn has continued to expand the technology foundations for his innovative geometry subsystem he originally created in 1998.
