Volunteerism in Engineering
The CAD Society is a not-for-profit industry association with the goal of fostering a community and encouraging open communication among those who make their living within the CAD industry including AEC, mechanical, manufacturing, and GIS.
Are you concerned about the decreasing enrollment of engineering students that could severely curtail the ability of industrialized countries to compete in the 21st century? We are. That is why we want to initiate Volunteer Programs. The goal is to help students become more interested in engineering, design, manufacturing, etc. by putting them in touch with those professionals who are making a living doing it.
The CAD Society's main current concern is the decline in people choosing engineering, design, and innovation as a profession, especially in the western hemisphere. We view this as being particularly damaging to the CAD industry and feel that one of the most important missions for The CAD Society is to promote, encourage and develop engineers of all kinds, at all levels and across the globe. To do that the CAD Society needs volunteers.
Do you have just an hour to spare? Or maybe a few hours per week? Regardless of how much time you have on your hands, you can make a difference to the way engineering and design professions are viewed and how people relate to them.
What Can I Do?
We are looking for volunteers to be able to spend time doing the following:
- Short presentations at your local schools, showing students various ways that engineering is cool, worthwhile and worth considering
- Mentors for programs such as FIRST and Odyssey Of The Mind
- Female volunteers to mentor girls who show an interest in engineering
- Spokespeople who can help us lobby organizations and government on behalf of engineers, engineering
- Researchers who can assist in collecting data and information on engineering that can help with all the other activities listed above.
What Will the Society Do To Help?
The CAD Society is working to provide the tools for you to give presentations, and contacts so you can link up with your local FIRST program or other school activity that promotes engineering. If you feel that you could assist the industry by being a spokesperson, researcher etc. then please contact us directly!
Do I have to be a CAD Society member?
There is, of course, power in numbers. Joining The CAD Society allows your voice to be multiplied, allows us to expand our volunteer programs and build a strong force to help promote engineering, design, and innovation of all kinds. But to volunteer, you do not have to be a member of The CAD Society. You will have access to the Volunteer information for free.
But if you are, like us, concerned that younger students are not getting the necessary math and science skills needed to perk their interest in engineering and design, then we want you to support the CAD Society so that we can support engineering in all its forms.
The CAD Society needs your support. So please consider joining The CAD Society.
